Calgary Technologies Inc. rebrands to Platform Calgary

On March 4, 2019 Calgary Technologies Inc. will begin rebranding to Platform Calgary. As Platform Calgary, our focus will remain on supporting Calgary's innovation-driven companies by providing access to space, programming and advocacy, while also championing the vision for the new Platform Innovation Centre's design, activity, and culture. Our name change comes at the heels of our recent announcement as the new operator of the Platform Innovation Centre opening in East Village in the fall of 2020.

Why Platform Calgary?

There is a need to make innovation more accessible and visible to our community and this rebrand aligns with the City of Calgary's 10-Year Economic Strategy. Platform started with the idea of transforming Calgary into a global innovation hub. As Platform Calgary, we are turning that idea into action. Through this work the next wave of shared prosperity is being generated in our city, transforming local businesses into international success stories. By working together, we can make Calgary a global hub for startups and innovation.

It is about elevating innovation, and Platform Calgary is the next phase and evolution of Calgary Technologies Inc.

What's next?

March 4, 2019 marks our first official day of business as Platform Calgary. Over the next few months, you will see our materials transitioning over to our new name and brand. Our long-term priority is to put a focus on innovation in the heart of downtown Calgary. On March 4, 2019, we are opening Platform Beta at the Hillier Block in East Village. This historic 5,300-sq-ft building will serve as our interim downtown facility while the Platform Innovation Centre is being built.

We will continue to operate and provide services out of the Alastair Ross Technology Centre and The Inc.

Save the date for May 15, 2019: Annual Report to Community, Demo Day and Strategy Launch in the new Central Library. The event will showcase our Junction program graduates and will be the public launch event for our new Platform Calgary identity and strategic plan.

1. What is your innovation story?

Visilink connects leaders to their mobile teams worldwide. We started by helping the CEO of the world's largest financial service company guide and share best practices with 100,000 associates throughout North America. Since then, we've grown to provide live private broadcast capabilities to anyone with a smart phone, a message to share and a global team to lead.

We differentiate from public social media-based services (like Facebook Live) in that our broadcasts are private, the audiences sign in and the membership engages with the speaker in a controlled, moderated and safe process, free from advertisements and other distractions.

Visilink transforms the way businesses publish content and use live streaming online. Thousands of people every month train through our platform. We work with organizations that wish to create private communities to better engage and retain their membership. Our hosted service helps our Clients to intelligently manage, publish and distribute their content (any digital media, and especially video-based content) for secure access by their membership-based organizations.

2. Do you follow a sustainable development agenda (for people, planet and prosperity) in your company / business?

Visilink helps organizations connect with their membership. Travel is expensive, time consuming, and fails to be inclusive to all. Leadership must remain accessible. Visilink solves this problem by creating an environment where leadership continuously engages their community, where audiences have flexible access to their leaders in a safe and private setting.

Visilink provides a private ecosystem of services through which leaders maintain connectivity and retain control, while driving engagement with their audiences and answering their questions and reacting to their suggestions. Participants save time and energy by not needing to travel great distances to stay connected, and feel much more connected and more appreciated.

A good example of this is when Visilink helped a large cosmetic company certify over 22,000 representatives worldwide to use their new software in under 10 days. Not only was everyone engaged, but the feedback from the field back to the head office was invaluable in improving their own software in real time!


3. If your enterprise could have a global application, what is your vision for transforming the planet?

Visilink's vision is to transform the way companies engage with their teams and membership worldwide. Our enterprise-tier solutions and our growth-focused business outcomes are proven. Now we need to find partners through which to grow together.

Enterprises everywhere will find ways to continuously engage their members, yet at the same time they need help navigating the technical mine-fields constantly evolving before them. Many "Free" solutions will fail to protect their corporate data, content and intellectual property. The lure of free services is enticing, but sadly will quickly expose companies to vulnerabilities such as having their data stolen, their membership attention distracted and their usage behavior harvested and sold to competing interests and third-party advertisers.
Visilink's mission is to protect our Clients through our proprietary systems, our “Done-With-You” (DWF) services and our proven strategies that empower forward-thinking organizations to quickly deploy best-fit engaging platforms tailored to their business goals.
