Sale of Alastair Ross Technology Centre a step closer to opening the Platform Innovation Centre

Published: Friday, August 13th, 2021

As part of Platform Calgary’s strategy to focus our innovation ecosystem-building efforts, we have finalized the sale of our former headquarters, the Alastair Ross Technology Centre (ARTC), to the University of Calgary Properties Group (UCPG). The building will be a part of the University Innovation Quarter – a newly revitalized innovation and research cluster that will help drive innovation in the Calgary region by providing space for companies and start-ups to interact and work alongside UCalgary students and researchers.

The ARTC is an important part of our innovation history in this city, and it will remain so under this new ownership. The businesses that make ARTC home will have their leases transferred to the UCPG, and we remain enthusiastic champions of the work they do as part of Calgary’s growing innovation economy.

Platform Calgary’s new headquarters will be the Platform Innovation Centre which is opening in stages to the public, partners, and members over this autumn. It will be a home for startup founders – the space where they can catalyze, collide and connect with the entire innovation ecosystem brought together under one roof. We can’t wait to meet you there!

“UCalgary has always been an important partner as we work together to grow and strengthen our innovation economy,” said Dr. Terry Rock, President and CEO of Platform Calgary. “This transaction represents a commitment between partners to continue this work for the benefit of the larger community.”

As a trusted civic partner, we are laser-focused on optimizing and accelerating our city-wide innovation ecosystem to be a global tech hub. Every investment made, and action taken, is in service of the broader community as we diversify our economy and create shared prosperity for all Calgarians. Thanks to our collaboration with the University of Calgary Properties Group on this sale, we have even greater resources and capacity to achieve our goals.
