More about Platform CalgaryDigital Commerce Bank (DCBank) and Platform Calgary have announced the launch of the Calgary Fintech Award - western Canada’s first major fintech award. It includes a programming component to help founders advance their business, as well as the chance to win up to $250,000 in non-dilutive cash. The Calgary Fintech Award will support fintech startups intending to grow their business in the Calgary region. Startups can apply for the inaugural award at calgaryfintechaward.com until June 26, 2022.
“Calgary is an emerging fintech hub. Our role at Platform is to connect startups to the resources they need to grow strong roots here in our city,” says Terry Rock, CEO at Platform Calgary. “The Calgary Fintech Award will do just that - we’ll connect fintech startups with a group of world-class advisors, mentors and judges, and accelerate the growth of their business amongst other global fintech startups. To sweeten the deal, they’ll be competing for a chance to win a cash prize of up to $250,000 they can use towards their business.”
A total of 25 startups will be selected to participate in the 6-week program. Startup founders will have exclusive access to interactive workshops, thought leadership panel discussions, coaching and advisory sessions with industry experts, as well as peer networking opportunities. The top 5 selected startups will have the opportunity to live-pitch to a panel of judges to take home the grand cash prize. Winners will be announced during an Awards Ceremony in fall 2022.
“We are very pleased to partner with Platform Calgary on this unique program driving value and opportunities for fintech businesses as well as demonstrating the value and opportunities these businesses have in Calgary,” says Jeffrey Smith, President & CEO at DC Bank.
More sponsorship opportunities are available for companies wanting to support the growth of the fintech industry in Calgary through the Calgary Fintech Award.

Behind every startup milestone is a moment of support: a connection made, a skill learned, or guidance that helps a founder take the next step. Platform Calgary’s programming provides a tiered pathway that supports founders from the initial spark of an idea through to global scaling. By lowering barriers for early-stage entrepreneurs and providing high-performance coaching and sector-specific connections for growing companies, these programs help founders move from idea to traction and build businesses that can scale.
